This video contains that rarest of musical events, a concerto combining a rock band with a symphony orchestra. Few were written and this is the most famous with the Mark II version of Deep Purple and the Royal Philiharmonic Orchestra all under the baton of Malcolm Arnold.
The original 8 tracks of the concert have been combined into a brand new stereo mix for this video release.
This was just the right sort of event to close the musically adventurous 1960s, and fortunately the cameras were there. The echoes have been bouncing around the dome of the Royal Albert Hall ever since.
