18-vuotispäivänsä kunniaksi Catherine on kutsuttu vanhempiensa plantaasille Amazon-joen varrelle. Venematkan aikana Guanira-intiaanit (Amazonin pääkallonmetsästäjät) tappavat Catherinen vanhemmat ja ottavat hänet vangiksi.
Kahden vuoden ajan Catherine kärsii painajaismaisen vankeuden pääkallonmetsästäjien kylässä. Hänen ainoa toivonsa on nuori soturi UMUKAI, joka rakastuu häneen. Umukai oli todistamassa Catherinen vanhempien murhan ja kertoi teon takana olleen Catherinen oman sedän ja tädin, jotka halusivat plantaasin omakseen.
Umukai auttaa Catherinen pakoon ja kostamaan vanhempien murhan. Vapaudessa koettaa kuitenkin uusi vankeus. Kuinka elämä voikaan olla julmaa nuorta naista kohtaan.
Tämä elokuva on tosi kertomus, kuvauspaikat ovat samat, jossa Catherine koki kohtalonsa 10 vuotta sitten. Nykyisin Catherine asuu Lontoossa ja on pitkän hiljaisuuden jälkeen kertonut kauhean salaisuuden englantilaiselle toimittajalle, joka yksinoikeudella kirjoitti tämän elokuvan...
